RMHC of the Southwest is committed to caring for families who have a child receiving medical care. At the heart of what we do are our two main programs, the Ronald McDonald House and the four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
Ronald McDonald House
Located in Lubbock, Texas, the Ronald McDonald House continues to be the cornerstone program of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest. The House serves as a “home-away-from-home” for families of critically ill children who are receiving medical treatment in local hospitals. More than 400 families are served by the Ronald McDonald House each year.
Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms
Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of the Ronald McDonald House program. They are located at Covenant Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center in Lubbock and Medical Center Hospital in Odessa and provide a personal respite right inside the hospital for families of children undergoing medical treatment.
These beautiful rooms offer many of the comforts of home to help alleviate the anxiety of being in a hospital environment for families while remaining only a heartbeat away from their child.
House to Home
Our House to Home Program provides families with items they need to make the transition from the Ronald McDonald House to their home easier. This includes gift cards for groceries and gas as well as non-perishable food items and household goods. It is part of the way we show that being part of the RMHC Family is forever and lasts long after families head home.
Cart with a Heart
Cart with a Heart brings the comforts of the Ronald McDonald Family Room to pediatric patient’s rooms in the hospital. The cart brings drinks, snacks, toys, blankets, and more to patients and their families. This program gives children and families who are unable to make it to the Family Room a bit of joy while facing medical challenges.
Volunteer Programs: Guest Chef Program
Our amazing volunteers and friends provide a meal each day for the families that stay at the Ronald McDonald House. It takes away the worry and hassle of food preparation so that the families can give all of their energy and attention to their child.
Scholarship Program
At Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest, we realize that a serious illness of a child can have a significant emotional and financial impact on the entire family.
Our scholarship program embraces our mission of offering support to ill or injured children and their families. We offer scholarships to applicants who have had a serious childhood sickness or are a sibling in an illness-affected family.
Volunteer Programs: Family Room Volunteers
Family Rooms are mini–Ronald McDonald Houses and offer all families (local and out-of-town) the opportunity to take a break from the stressful hospital environment. Families are encouraged to come to the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and enjoy a warm, comfortable setting where they can relax and get something to eat or drink.
